Youth killed in clash over sand extraction in M’singh

A 25-year-old man was killed and another was injured in a clash between two groups over sand extraction from a river in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.

The incident occurred at about 10:00pm on Monday in village Taloli, said Mohammad Ferdous Alam, officer-in-charge of Pagla Police Station.

 

The deceased, Mehedi Hasan Rakib, 25, was the son of Mojibur Rahman of the same village.

According to police and local people, Rakib had an dispute with another local person named Yasin over sand extraction.

On Monday night, the conflict escalated, and members of Yasin’s group beat and hacked Rakib to death.

Another person was injured by gunshot during the clash, but his identity could not be immediately confirmed. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

‘Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. The body has been recovered and taken to the police station. Legal proceedings are underway,’ added the OC.
